A Place Where History Lives On
A Community Through the Years
Where it all began …
The Swim and Sport Club was originally founded in 1928 in Newark, New Jersey by a group of German immigrants with a shared passion for friendly athletic competition. In the 1930's we moved to our current location and set about constructing the many facilities, including sports fields, a large pool, clubhouse, picnic grove, and small summer bungalows all surrounded by acres of undisturbed forest and farmland. Everything you see today was created by volunteers and is still maintained through the efforts of volunteers.
Descendants of the original club members are still a part of the SSC today, with a handful of families proudly in their fifth generation of membership. The SSC still retains some of its German heritage through the SSC Homecoming (July), continued participation in the Eastern Fistball Association, and an annual Team Handball tournament (Sportsfest).
